Guam - The Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority completed the second and final phase of the roof repair of its GHURA 48 housing development in Dededo. It was back in 2008, when nearly three dozen families were moved out of the GHURA housing in Dededo due to structural deficiencies with the homes.

Repair work on the first 21 units was completed in March of last year and at today's open house, executive director Marcel Camacho says he was proud to have families moving into the remaining 27 units. He said, "We had to replace the roofs, we found some of the rebar during the original construction was spaced properly. And we also went in to the units and looked at the cabinetry and flooring and wanted to make sure we brought it up to today's standard."

The repairs cost a total of $2.6 million. GHURA will now work on transitioning people out of rental assistant and into home ownership as it is already working with 18 contractors to offer design concepts for shell homes starting at $25,000.
