Six apply for superintendent
by Krystal Paco
Guam - Six applicants may have met Tuesday's deadline for the superintendent of the Department of Education position, but only one submission appears to be complete. According to Guam Education Board member Joe San Agustin, the position is too high profile to allow for incomplete submissions and applicant bios cannot be released without their consent.
The board awaits the return of GEB vice chair Dr. Paul Pineda, who heads the committee search before proceeding. Pineda is expected to return to Guam this week.
The position pays $125,000 a year and requires applicants hold a master's degree in education, business, public administration or related field, have five years experience in the field of educational leadership or management, and must be of good moral character without any felony convictions.
The six applicants are Jon Jon Fernandez, Dr. Tupeni Lebaivalu Baba, Dr. Antoinette L. Morta, Michelle Mendiola, Elwin Quitano, and David Leon Guerrero Shimizu.
