Guam - UCLA graduate Janet Liang and Joey Tyquiengco need your help. Liang, 22, and Tyquiengco, 40, are both cancer patients who need to find a bone marrow match by April. Dr. Thomas Shieh is organizing a drive and hoping residents will take a minute to see if they're a match.
"We're getting matches every month but we still have a dire need for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders," he explained. "We still make up less than one percent of the National Bone Marrow Registry. It's basically taking the stem cell from the bone marrow and giving it to another person so they can produce their own bone marrow."
All it takes is a cheek swab to get registered with the National Registry. A bone marrow drive will be held February 10-12 at the Guam Premier Outlets in Tamuning.
