Guam - In an effort to further deter criminal activity in Department of Education school campuses, Legislative education committee chair speaker Judith Won Pat introduced Bill 412. The measure would allow for volunteers to patrol GDOE schools during non-school hours. You may recall, several of the island's schools were broken into this past year. The bill authorizes the GPD Chief of Police to work with the DOE Superintendent to recruit volunteers. The volunteers would take no enforcement action during their patrol, and will notify police of suspicious activity or crimes in progress.
Meantime, DOE and the Judiciary continue to iron out an agreement before the five school resource officers go to work in the island's public high schools.
