Guam - His love of basketball and shoes prompted Emerald LaBance to start his own non profit charity. Over the last year LaBance has collected nearly 4,000 shoes for disadvantaged teens just, based on word of mouth. He hopes to exceed that collection this year encouraging the community to donate shoes for the less fortunate.
"I grew up poor myself," he shared with KUAM News. "So the best gift I got was a basketball hope and basketball shoes and that was all second hand. So it was grateful then and I love basketball and hopefully the local youth can enjoy basketball and have the proper shoes."
Aside from athletic shoes, the organization also accepts running shoes and dress shoes. For more information on how you can donate, call 688-3106 or [email protected].
