Guam - Last year the island's veterinarian and animal control officers were identified as positions to be cut with GovGuam's downsizing, but the Mayors Council of Guam has took notice. According to Yigo Mayor Bob Lizama, the MCOG has taken interest in absorbing the positions as classified employees to assist with their stray animal roundup

"Presently the animal control officers are under the Department of Agriculture, at one time it was under Public Health. They were then shifted to the Department of Agriculture; perhaps maybe we absorb them in the case of shifting the animal control officers under the Mayors Council of Guam's body and funding as classified employees," he explained.

Lizama says mayors deal with animal control officers on a regular basis and their fieldwork is closely related. Lizama hopes to receive the support of the Legislature.
