Guam - The Port's negotiating team met today to get the ball rolling on carrying out their mandate to acquire two gantry cranes from Matson and Horizon. The team consists of members of the private sector along with Port board members and management.

Board chairman Dan Tydingco says the biggest challenge is coming up with the recommendations within the compressed period of time, saying, "It's an expanded procurement authority for us to look at as a option for procurement, but at the end of the day we look and say it's not viable, it's not financial feasible, or the equipment is not in the best condition that we best believe it should be."

The agency is mandated to acquire at least two cranes by December 31 of next year, with the team set to meet weekly to resolve the issue. The board meanwhile will be holding its regular meeting tomorrow at 11:45 in the morning.
