Guam - There's a cloud of uncertainty for Guam's economic outlook in 2012. The conclusion was made in a new First Hawaiian Bank economic analysis of Guam and the CNMI that was prepared by Dr. Maria Claret Ruane. The report attributes the uncertainty to the fallout from the Japan earthquake and the pending military buildup and ongoing discussions in Tokyo and Washington regarding the timing and scope of the Marines' relocation.
The report found that tourism is starting to rebound from earlier this year and there is considerable speculation surrounding the relocation of troops due to funding issues. Dr. Ruane says current and future developments will test Guam's economy and provide it with an opportunity to show its resiliency.
