Guam - Guam Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense participated in Pacific Wave 2011 today. The mock tsunami exercise was aimed at increasing preparedness, evaluating response efforts and improving coordination with various agencies not just on island, but around the region.

Spokesperson Alyssa Benito said, "We're surrounded by water. We're very prone to tsunamis, and it's important for our residents to be prepared and also our office to respond in a timely manner."

Benito says today's exercise also gave officials an opportunity to experiment with the new maps they were given and implementing new guidelines for tsunami response in the event of a real threat.
