Guam - The Port Authority and Watts-Healy Tibbitts Joint Venture have settled a lawsuit over a fine that was imposed back in 2009 when the company made an alleged illegal shipment through the Guam Shipyard. According to the agreement, the Port has agreed to pay back the $927,000 fine it imposed on the company under a letter of credit.
In exchange, the Port will keep more than $150,000 the company paid the agency and Watts has agreed not to make shipments anywhere other than the Port. Watts Vice President John Sage says the company has been vindicated by the settlement as everyone who uses the Port should be treated equally and the Port's tariffs must be applied evenly in accordance with its published tariffs and fees.
