Couple sentenced for bank fraud
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - After admitting that they got a car loan that was used for other purposes, Barbara Caoile and Kenneth Lujan were sentenced to one month behind bars. In May 2008, Caoile applied for a $30,000 loan to purchase a Toyota Camry. However on the application form, Caoile made false representations claiming she had been employed and made a regular salary when she instead had been unemployed.
After receiving the money from the bank, Lujan paid-off an existing loan and used the money for other purposes. Both were sentenced to one month behind bars and five years supervised release. Despite Lujan's request not to pay restitution, the court ordered them to pay back $32,244.08.
Caoile must report to U.S. Marshals by January 2, while Lujan can serve the remainder of his sentence on weekends.
