Guam - Although the new ambulance billing system is not yet in full effect, the Guam Fire Department is currently billing customers. GFD Acting Fire Chief Joey San Nicolas says his personnel completed the training for the new billing system with the vendor, Lifeline Systems Inc.

He says they are now waiting for the tough books to arrive on island that will allow for a much quicker billing turnaround, saying, "We were shooting for this month to be honest, we will take it on a month by month basis but I want to make it clear that we are already billing its just that the technology part of it is what we are trying to get off the ground at this point."

San Nicolas estimates the new billing system will help generate up to $1.5 million a year for GFD. He also says GFD will again take a look at the option of increasing the ambulance transport fees. The fire chief says the revenue will go into the agency's FLAME Fund to purchase new ambulances, pay for training, and other GFD equipment.
