Guam - A fruit picking outing on Thursday afternoon resulted in the discovery of human remains. A death investigation is underway and authorities say it's too early to determine if the body is that of a man who's been missing for nearly four months.

Skeletal remains were found in the Harmon cliff line area late Thursday afternoon. Guam Police Department Spokesperson Officer A.J. Balajadia said, "A couple of people were up here looking for some fruit from the trees in the area and they came across what appears to be human remains." Balajadia says GPD officers responded to the crime scene around 5pm Thursday, saying, "Criminal Investigations were activated as well and so currently Criminal Investigation agents are conducting the death investigation."

The investigation continued into the late evening hours. Chief medical examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola was also called to the scene to examine what was left of the human remains. "I'm not sure at this point whether the pathologist will be able to perform any type of testing, or perhaps not testing but an autopsy would not be - probably wouldn't be able to do that based on the composition of the remains."

CID investigators even at night assessed the area consumed by overgrown vegetation. Crime scene investigators setup a command post and put crime scene tape throughout the jungle area. Police have not yet confirmed whether or not the human remains found here is that of the man reported missing back in July. "They are going to take the remains and they will get DNA from the remains and try confirm whether or not its any of the individuals that are missing," said Balajadia.

Today a green GMC Jimmy Wagon was pulled out the area. It's an exact match to the description of the vehicle 55-year-old Daniel Cobb was last seen driving. It has a Hawaii sticker on the rear window with the license plate MAN6962. CID put out a missing person's flyer earlier this year with the same details. Cobb was reported missing on July 13, and was last seen leaving the American Dialysis Center just down the street from where the body was discovered on Thursday. An islandwide search for Cobb was conducted back in August, but nothing was found. Despite this key evidence, Balajadia says it's too premature to confirm if the remains belong to Cobb.

"We just need to find out if its any of our missing individuals reported missing earlier this year as well as last year and we'll go from there," he said.

In the meantime, Cobb's family declined an interview.
