Guam - While some businesses are packing up and shipping out, partly due to the delay with the military buildup, others are weathering the storm - improving, expanding and opening for new business. The One Hagatna Bay Building in East Agana is just one of the many renovations you'll notice when driving along Marine Corps Drive.
Leonard Calvo said, "It's a 17,000-square foot building designed by RIM Architects, built by Tutuhan Hill Group. It's around a $2 million renovation being financed by the Bank of Guam." The One Hagatna Bay Building was a project spearheaded by Calvo Enterprises and according to Calvo, the company's vice president, the renovation is part of a bigger effort to revitalize the capitol. "They did a great job all the companies and the projects finally done and we've been getting a lot of compliments on it. We really beatified that part of East Agana; those buildings are probably 40 years old and we put the facelift on it. It looks really good and its part of our plan to fix up some of these older buildings."
A plan that One Hagatna Bay tenant and president of Island Tinting and Paradise Auto Spa, Joe Roberto, is glad to be a part of. "Well special thanks to the Calvo Family specifically Leonard Calvo who about a year ago we got together and said let's revamp Agana and make it beautiful and put together this beautiful building by RIM Architects," he explained.
Roberto's shops cover more than 5,000 square feet, allowing for more work to get done and a newly renovated work area for his employees. "How special is this is because of the works and efforts of our staff because without them making you feel good about spending your hard earned dollars here, we try to do our very best to provide that quality workmanship both in tinting and detailing and we also do buildings as well," he said.
The One Hagatna Bay Building is just one of the many developments being undertaken by Calvo Enterprises. In early 2012 we should see the grand opening of the new Mangilao marketplace. Calvo said, "It's a 12,000-square foot building; we got Bank of Guam, who will have a standalone pad out in the front and then we are going to have Taco Bell and Pizza Hut and we still have some vacant space there."
According to Calvo, the company feels that the village of Mangilao and its large population along with the University of Guam, the Guam Community College and the surrounding area is an underserved retail market and Calvo Enteprises is happy to bring business to the central village.
