Sanctuary co-founder on island for anniversary
Guam - To commemorate Sanctuary's 40th anniversary this month, one of its founders, Father Robert Phelps is here on island along with Luis Martinez. Father Phelps says the word sanctuary derives from Medieval times. "When people were in trouble with the law or difficulties like that they would run into the cathedral and local police in the place, because of the culture there, couldn't go in and get them out they were protected in there they had sanctuary there," he said.
Sanctuary is a community-based organization driven to improve the quality of life for youth as well advocate to preserve the family unit. Sanctuary events kickoff tomorrow with ecumenical services and a proclamation signing to be held at the Latte of Freedom at 4pm.
