Guam - As Matson picks up the bulk of shipping for the island due to the pullout of Horizon Lines, Governor Eddie Calvo has asked the company to reduce its shipping rates. In a letter to the company, the governor says Matson's business will increase to 100% of all U.S. shipping to and from Guam and that should provide an opportunity to reduce rates.
Calvo is hopeful the rates can be lowered before Christmas and that the displaced Horizon workers can be picked up by Matson. Horizon announced that it is no longer financially viable to operate out of Guam.
