Guam - A lack of finances and resources has delayed Lujan's Salvage Yard's efforts to come into compliance with a notice of violation from the Guam Environmental Protection Agency. Jose and Raymond Lujan were granted a 90-day extension to cleanup the illegal dump site on their property in Toto.

In a letter to the Guam EPA, the Lujan's take responsibility for the dump site, but say they are struggling to pay for the cleanup while trying to keep the 42-year-old family business open and maintain the livelihoods of their employees and families.  The company has already discarded household trash that was at the site and installed silt fences.

They expect to complete an inventory of hazardous waste and complete a secondary containment area for the 55-gallon drums of diesel by this week.  With the extension they have until December 27 to come up with the final disposal plan or capping of solid waste.
