Guam – President Barack Obama announces that after nearly a decade, the American war in Iraq will end and all US troops will return home from Iraq by the end of December. In a letter from the President posted on the white house website, Obama writes, the war in Iraq came with tremendous cost with more than a million Americans serving and nearly 4,500 who have their lives in service to the rest of us. To date, more than 100,000 troops were removed from Iraq. Obama also write that after a decade of war, the nation that we need to build is our own.

Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo states the President has fulfilled his promise to America, "As we look forward to the return of our troops from Iraq, we must ensure that they have health care and support services in the coming years. I will continue to work with the Obama Administration as well as my colleagues in the House Armed Services Committee to ensure that our brave men and women return home to communities that will be able to support them with jobs and the health care services they deserve. I am grateful for the efforts of our men and women in uniform who helped bring down a tyrant and gave the people of Iraq a chance for freedom and democracy."
