Guam - The current Democrat Party chair, a former governor and an attorney are among those who have expressed an interest in leading the Democratic Party on Guam. Over the last few weeks, the party has been trying to boost its membership.

Party chair Pilar Lujan has indicated her plans to run for another term but her vice chair, former mayor Jaime Paulino, will be retiring so she will need to find a replacement. Former governor Carl Gutierrez has also expressed an interest to run and has indicated plans to partner with Gloria Nelson as his running mate. Attorney John Terlaje and Frank Schaecher have also expressed their intentions to run.

Nominating committee chair Josh Tenorio says candidates must submit petitions and the deadline for nominations is November 4. The party election for chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer and male and female representatives from each of the 21 districts is scheduled for Saturday, November 19 from 8am to 6pm.

Tenorio says a second election will be held in May 2012 where members will select the national committee man and woman and delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
