Guam - Because of concerns with the Maritime Administration's recommendation on how to use $50 million, a resolution has been introduced to affirm a balanced approach to the modernization of the Port. Senator Tom Ada says the resolution is in response to a working session that was held earlier this month with MARAD, the port and other stakeholders.

Lawmakers have expressed concerns with MARAD's recommendation that the $50 million Department of Defense grant be used solely to repair and replace Berth F4, F5, and F6. The resolution seeks to ensure a balance with the Port's capital improvement and ongoing maintenance and repair investments. The resolution was co-sponsored by Senators Rory Respicio, Adolpho Palacios and Mana Silva Taijeron.

A public hearing on the resolution will be held on October 27 at 2:30 in the afternoon at the Legislative Hearing Room in Hagatna.
