Guam - A $314,000 grant couldn't have come at a better time for the Guam Fire Department, which is now in possession of protective equipment for firefighters. Acting Fire Chief Joey San Nicolas says the department's existing gear is outdated. A 2007 grant program made the purchase of the equipment possible to protect firefighters while on missions to protect people and property.
"What is basically consists of is 15 self-contained breathing apparatus air packs, 30 tanks to go with it - 45 minutes bottles, 320 masks that will be issued to every individual firefighter which has never been done before in our department," he said.
The fire department is also anticipating the arrival of additional equipment that will be utilized under a new Respiratory Fitness Program.
