Guam - To coincide with Family Violence Awareness Month, the new Guam Family Justice Center officially opened at the Dededo Precinct this morning. It serves as a one-stop center for victims of family violence and abuse where victim advocates conduct interviews and provide necessary resources.

GPD Captain Steve Ignacio says this is only the beginning as the ultimate goal is to have a bigger facility that allows for multiple service providers, telling KUAM News, "We have at least over 200 family violence cases every year, nearly 70 percent of them are closed by patrol officers, we're are working now on the other 30 percent but what we found is services for victims is lacking."

He adds those statistics do not include the number of stalking and sexual assault cases they handle. Attorney General Leonardo Rapadas also says he anticipates the numbers to go up with the opening of this center in hopes that more victims will come forward.
