Guam - The Guam Power Authority is currently conducting major overhaul work on the Tanguisson Power Plant Baseload Unit No. 1. GPA plant shift supervisor Ken Rios says the unit has been down since last week and maintenance crews are fine tuning it to ultimately save it and keep it running online for future use.

He told KUAM News, "They're doing some cleaning, they're doing some inspection, doing some corrections that they may need to do, this happens every six years, it's a good thing for the people of Guam because it gives us the reliability of the unit, the efficiency and its availability."

Rios says the unit produces 26.5 megawatts of power and its overhaul will not affect the islandwide power system, as many backup generators are available locally. The unit is expected to return to service by early-November.
