GEPA: 24 polluted beaches this week

Guam – The Guam Environmental Protection agency reports 24 beaches found to be polluted above the accepted bacteriological standards this week. These waters include Gognga Beach, East Hagåtña Bay - Alupang Towers Beach, East Hagåtña Bay - Trinchera Beach, Padre Palomo Park Beach, Adelup Beach Park, Adelup Point Beach (West), Asan Bay Beach, Piti Bay, Santos Memorial Park, United Seamen's Service, Togcha Beach - near Namo River, Togcha Beach - Agat Park Beach, Togcha Beach - near Southern Christian Academy, Bangi Beach, Nimitz Beach, Umatac Bay, Toguan Bay, Merizo Pier at Mamaon Channel, Inarajan Pool, Inarajan Bay, Talofofo Bay, First Beach, Togcha Bay and Pago Bay. West Hagatna Bay also remain closed due to the fractured outfall at the Hagatna sewage treatment plant. GEPA notes there is also no harvesting, consumption of seaweed, fish or marine organisms allowed at Tanguission beach. Guam EPA warns that swimming, fishing or playing in these unsafe waters could result in certain illnesses.
