Guam - The Guam Community College and the Council on Postsecondary Student Affairs is invested in "Building A Stronger Workforce." Over 180 GCC students participated in the free workshop geared at preparing students for life after their degree.

GCC Center for Student Involvement program specialist Bobbie Leon Guerrero told KUAM News, "One of our missions is to provide the training that our students need to go out into the workforce. Every little bit that the College can do to give our students more skills to prepare for the workplace, we do." Leon Guerrero is proud of the variety of presenters at the workshop, saying, "We have people like specialists in the HR field, who are talking about how to build their resume. We have people who are training specialists from their particular company, teaching them about different personality types to expect at work. People who are from accounting talking about credit and financial success."

For 19-year-old GCC student Shina Marmar, workshops like today's build confidence as she studies hospitality in hopes of becoming a travel agent or flight attendant. "I think that for people to start their careers they jump into the workforce. They want money. I think it's very important for them to consider going to school, especially because it deals with job training," she said.

Marmar is well-versed at writing resumes and is especially proud of all the work experience she's gained while studying at GCC. She said, "They also have a time when they send you out into the workforce so you're getting training while you're getting credit. That's very good."

"That's a very good thing to put on your resume."
