8% water surcharge reduction approved
Residents can expect a reduction in surcharge payments in their water bill effective immediately following last night's Consolidated Commission on Utilities meeting.
Guam - Residents can expect a reduction in surcharge payments in their water bill effective immediately following last night's Consolidated Commission on Utilities meeting. CCU chairman Simon Sanchez says the CCU approved the reduction in surcharge from 10% to 2%.
He says the surcharge has been on the books since 2004 to pay unpaid Navy water and GPA power bills totaling around $25 million that accumulated during the Gutierrez Administration.
He adds that with the GPA power bill paid off last year, CCU requested that since all continuing surcharges will go strictly toward the Navy water bill, which they extend the billing period from 6 months to 12 months thus decreasing the surcharge for water ratepayers.
