Guam - On September 26 in a Yona neighborhood along Balajadia Street a toddler was found in a parked vehicle non-responsive just before 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Guam Fire Department Spokesperson Lt. Phil Camacho says the initial call was made by a family member.

"Frantic grandmother requesting help for her grandson and during the time of the call taking procedure, I believe in the background the grandfather said, 'Nevermind I know where the fire station is at and I will take the baby there,'" he said.

Instead the boy was taken by his family to the nearby fire station for help, with Camacho saying, "The grandparents and patient checked in and the station in Yona reported a difficulty breathing toddler so the Medic 5 was rolled out also a ALS Unit111 patient was packaged and taken to NMRC since it's the closest medical facility to Yona, and then from there I believe they tried to intubate at the hospital but the baby passed at the hospital…I believe the grandparents reported that he was locked in the car so the station crew reported that and we requested for GPD to be on the safe side for procedural sakes."

Camacho does say that CPR was not needed, since the child still had a pulse. Yona mayor Jose Pedo Terlaje identified the family only as the Pangelinan family and said he knew them very well. He declined further comment because of the ongoing police investigation.

Criminal investigators believe the toddler was outside playing when he managed to get into a parked vehicle at the family residence. He was found unconscious with the windows and doors closed. Child Protective Services was also activated.

KUAM News has confirmed a second autopsy was performed on the toddler today, however medical examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola says the results may not be finalized until Wednesday. Those results are what authorities say will help determine if the toddler's death was in fact accidental and whether the case will be forwarded to the attorney general's office for prosecution.
