Guam – The community is urged to remain vigilant when using social networking sites. Sinajana Vice Mayor Robert Hofmann issued the notice after he became victim to identity theft on Facebook. Hofmann says he discovered his name, information and a personal photograph were used on the site outside of his personal account. Hofmann states, "I ask the people of Guam to be cautious of those they come in contact with, especially online. I am uncertain of the perpetrator's motives and to what extent he/she will work toward whatever goal they hope to achieve. While he says investigations are ongoing, he reminds the public that cyber stalking and harassment are crimes recognized in public law 31-9. He says his family too has already felt the brunt of the harassment and does not know if the events coincide with one another. He is asking anyone with information to come forward, and contact his office at 477-6707.
