Guam - A state of mourning has been declared at the Guam Fire Department following the death of a firefighter, who died while in the line of duty last night. Acting Fire Chief Joey San Nicolas announced the death of Vince Cruz. He says Cruz refused to stop working while feeling ill.
San Nicolas states Cruz was instrumental in responding to the high number of emergency calls the department had last night. He says Cruz made the ultimate sacrifice, and gave his life to help others.
Acting Governor Ray Tenorio ordered flags at all fire stations and Adelup fly at half-staff, and asks all other government branches to do the same. Cruz has been posthumously promoted to fire lieutenant.
