Visiting chefs cook with GW students

Guam - Visiting Native American chefs Dr. Lois Ellen Frank and Walter Whitewater dropped in on George Washington High School ProStart students to cook dishes inspired by locally grown produce. Dr. Frank said, "I hope that these kids will realize that regardless of who you are or what your ethnic background is that you can contribute something. I grew up always being told there was a melting pot. But I really think we're not a pot that melts but that we're individual ingredients."
"We all add important components to the dish that we create, and we couldn't do the dish if we didn't have all the ingredients so diversity is a good thing," Whitewater added.
Both chefs are part of the Guam Humanities Council's 20th anniversary gala event "Eat Your Heritage." The visiting chefs will team with local chefs to create a five-course meal that explores connections between food, health, culture, and the environment while highlighting Guam's natural resources and heritage. The gala is scheduled for October 1 from 6 to 11pm at the Hyatt Regency.
Tickets are $150 per person and will benefit the Guam Humanities Council.
