PRESS RELEASE - Federal Receiver Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc. (GBB) today announced that the Guam Solid Waste Authority (GSWA), previously the Solid Waste Management Division, is rolling out its new bulky and metallic collection program. Starting Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the GSWA will take appointments from current solid waste customers for bulky material such as box springs, mattresses, sofas, and metallic items such as hot water heaters, washing machines, and refrigerators.

Each solid waste customer whose account is in good standing with GSWA can call 646-3111 and make an appointment with a customer service representative to have GSWA's truck and crew come to pick up the appropriate metallic and bulky material. Customers will be given a day on which the collection truck will come for pickup. The material must be set out at the curb on the day of the appointed collection, and there is a five (5) - item maximum on what can be placed out for collection. The metallic items will be recycled with Pyramid Recycling, and the material that is not recyclable will be taken to the Layon Landfill.

Customers who are current with their payments may receive up to two (2) free pick-ups per year. Additional pick-ups, beyond the two (2) free pick-ups each year, will cost $25.00 each. During the remaining months of 2011, customers will be limited to one (1) free pick-up.

"This is a new curbside collection program for the customers of the GSWA," said Receiver Representative David L. Manning. "The program will recycle as much as it can as well as provide a needed service to those who do not have the means to move such metallic and bulky material to a disposal or recycling point."
