Guam - Franz B. Reksid was found guilty of soliciting and accepting money from a government contractor while he served as the Special assistant to the secretary of Department of Public lands in 2009. US attorney for Guam/CNMI Alicia Limtiaco announced the guilty verdict Friday in the District court for the District of the Northern Mariana islands. After a three day jury trial, Reksid was found guilty of one count of bribery concerning a program receiving funds. The case was prosecuted by assistant US attorney general Eric O'Malley. Limtiaco states, "The Department of Justice and the US attorney's office are committed to enforcing our laws that protect the public's trust and faith in the integrity of the government. Ordinary citizens and community members should be able to rely on and expect government officials will exercise their duties with honesty. When government officials breach that public trust and violate laws, they will be held accountable for abuse or misuse of their office or misspending taxpayer dollars."

Reksid faces a maximum of 10 years in prison with a fine of up to $250,000. He has a sentencing hearing set for January 25, 2012.
