Guam – A former Guam resident was shot in Henderson, Nevada (Las Vegas Metropolitan Area) last week by a city police officer. According to CBS news affiliate 8 news now, 28-year-old Josiyah Meno was allegedly waving around two handguns at the corner of Horizon Ridge parkway and Coronado center. Four officers responded and spent about 8 minutes negotiating with him. Meno then allegedly raised one of the guns at the officers firing off a wild shot, while at the same time being shot himself by one of the officers. Meno was taken to the Sunrise hospital for a wound to the head. No one else was injured during the incident. Meno will reportedly be proxy booked on charges of attempted murder of a police officer. 8 news now also reports the incident may have stemmed from Meno's estranged wife obtaining a temporary protection order against him, but it had not been served. Henderson authorities say Meno is suspected of going to the office building to confront his wife. Meno also has prior conviction in Nevada for robbery, burglary, and burglary with a deadly weapon.
Meantime, Inarajan mayor Frank Taitague confirms with KUAM that Meno's family was originally from Malojloj. He says Meno's father is a former Guam police officer, adding that the family moved off island some time ago.
