Guam - The Route 7a Rehabilitation and Safety Project broke ground today on what will inevitably become an unbreakable road. The project, located in Hagatna between the Agana Swimming Pool and the Agana Shopping Center, will include pavement resurfacing and reconstruction, guardrail replacement and pavement marking.

Governor Eddie Calvo says it will not only result in a better road, but economic activity for Guam. "We have now a billion dollars on ongoing projects in various degrees, either the local government, the federal government or the military and a combination of either one," he told KUAM News. "So we see things that are happening that may be in the short-run be an inconvenience but what it does is spur the economy."

The project costs close to $5 million and is 100 percent funded by the Federal Highway Administration. Construction started last week and is expected to complete by May 2012.
