Guam - For the first time in five years, the Commission on Decolonization held a board meeting regarding resolving the question of Guam's political status. Governor Eddie Calvo reviewed and signed a letter to President Barack Obama declaring the people of Guam's embarkation of its sacred inalienable right of political destiny.

Aside from the letter discussions focused on next week's deadline for Guam to submit a petition to the United Nations to speak before one of its committees on decolonization.

Meanwhile, chairperson for the Task Force for Free Association, Joe Garrido, says he hopes the meeting will raise the seriousness of achieving self-determination of the indigenous people here on Guam. He said, "It's something that we need to discuss and to find amendable solution because I recognize that there are other people who came to Guam, made Guam their home so some special consideration can also be discussed so we can find solution to accept people who are non-indigenous."

The Commission on Decolonization will be meeting every first and third Thursday of the month, with the next meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 6 at Adelup.
