Governor signs budget bill

Guam - Governor Eddie Baza Calvo signed the Fiscal year 2015 budget bill into law today. According to Adelup GovGuam has managed to prioritize the budget as follows:
– 33.9% of the budget goes to education operations
– 18.8% goes to medical and health care services
– 20.2% goes to public safety and emergency response services
– 27.1% million will pay for debt service
Along with $118 million for tax refunds, the budget also includes funding for:
* COLA to about 6,500 GovGuam retirees;
* Universal Pre–Kindergarten to help our children;
* Sunday meals for our most vulnerable senior citizens;
* Care for our manamko' in the south; and
* Hay Plan retro pay for the GovGuam employees.
Although the Governor signed the budget, he did have a few reservations. "I thank the senators for their hard work – their team work – in supporting this budget bill. There are some things in the bill that I do need to work with the Legislature on. I'm sure we can work together on those changes," Gov. Eddie Calvo stated.
