GFD looking at next-gen E-911 system
by Nick Delgado
Guam - Struggling to keep the antiquated system up and running, the Guam Fire Department is seeking the immediate procurement of a next generation, enhanced E-911 system. The department put out a request for information looking for interested vendors to provide a cost-benefit analysis to upgrade or replace the existing Motorola Centralink 2000 system currently being used.
Acting GF spokesperson Lieutenant Phil Camacho says the new system would cost roughly one million dollars, saying, "The system we have now is still antiquated its still functioning but as I guess with past reports, Motorola doesn't make any parts for this particular system anymore, and we don't want to have another scenario where we had a few months ago in June where we had a power surge and it died and no one knew what was going on."
All interested vendors must submit notice of interest to the General Services Agency no late than October 14 at 5pm.
