Guam - Thousands of volunteers are expected to spend a day at the beach and make a world of difference for the 17th Annual Guam International Coastal Cleanup. The event takes place tomorrow at 17 shore sites throughout Guam from seven to 11 in the morning. Guam Coastal Management Program Coordinator Tom Quinata tells KUAM News that the event is the largest volunteer activity for cleaning up the oceans not only on Guam but throughout the world in over 150 countries and locations.

He expects this year to exceed last year's count of over three thousand volunteers, saying, "We see the trend from prior years, we've actually picked up less trash last year than we did the prior years, so hopefully we see that trend go down whereas the volunteers go up."

Volunteers will not only clean Guam's beaches but take part in recycling efforts and learn how what we do on land affects our oceans as well. Participants get a free t-shirt and are advised to bring a water bottle and gloves. For more information watch news extra following tonight's lineup to hear more on the cleanup.
