Guam - The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service provided an update to the Southern Guam Soil and Water District on their Emergency Watershed Protection Program, which was done for seven sights affected by Typhoon Tingting in 2004. USDA engineer Jeff Wheaton says the program is only applied when the governor, USDA or the President declares a disaster following a typhoon, tsunami or earthquake.

He explained, "The largest project we did was Nimitz hill estates in Piti, there were houses damaged but the potential to damage a number of others existed until we fixed it now that damage is no longer from a potential landslide."

He says they are now finishing up the final project in Merizo.
