Guam - The University of Guam received approval on August 16 from the Senior Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges to offer its first full degree program online for Masters of Education with a Specialization in Reading. UOG Senior Vice President Helen Whippy said, "It is extremely useful for our region where you know every person that works in Micronesia or Guam is needed all the time; they can't just go away for two years and get a degree. So this provides a service that is designed by your local university and provides local people with local knowledge on how to teach reading and writing."
Recruitment of students for the program will begin this fall with implementation in Spring 2012. Whippy also set the goal of putting 50% of general education courses online by the end of the academic year. Interested students can view program courses at UOG.edu.
