Guam - Supreme Court Chief Justice F. Philip Carbullido is urging lawmakers to act on Governor Eddie Calvo's judicial nominee James Canto. Canto's nomination follows the vacancy on the superior court bench left by retiring judge Steven Unpingco. The chief justice says if the position is not filled soon, then it would put a strain on the ability of sitting judges to efficiently address their increasing caseloads.
In the meantime, Public Safety Oversight Chair Senator Adolpho Palacios says he will be reviewing canto's background investigation later this week, and intends to hold a public hearing by the end of the month.
