Current policy states guard members transitioning get paid the allowance based on their home of record rather than their permanent duty assignment station.

Guam - Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo along with Iowa Congressman Dave Lobesack introduced a bill to provide National Guard members the appropriate basic allowance for housing or overseas housing allowance when trasitioning from active duty to full time national guard duty without a break in service. Current policy states guard members transitioning get paid the allowance based on their home of record rather than their permanent duty assignment station.
Bordallo is hoping to prevent any drastic reduction in the amount of allowance servicemembers are entitled to when transitioning, "This bill addresses a disparity in the application of housing allowance pay to members of the National Guard. These men and women serve our nation and dedicate their lives in support of our national security—the least we can do is pay them fairly."
