Former Guam resident selected for DC program

Former Yona resident Nolan Flores was recently nominated to attend the prestigious Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, DC in October.

Guam - Former Yona resident Nolan Flores was recently nominated to attend the prestigious Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, DC in October. Flores, who attends Oveta Culp Hobby Elementary School in Fort Hood, Texas, is with his mom visiting family on island his dad is currently deployed to Iraq.

They have been spending the summer holding fundraisers to raise money for the conference's tuition and travel expenses. "We'll be discussing various leadership topics and distinguished leaders will be speaking like Al Gore, Newt Gingrich, Colin Powell, and we'll be getting VIP tours of capitol hill and different memorials," his mother told KUAM News.

The Junior National Young Leaders Conference offers selected students the opportunity to learn how to become an effective leader by studying the leaders of the past and focusing on making a positive impact in their homes and communities.
