Guam - The Western Islands Association of Fire Chiefs held its first meeting today. The group includes management from the Guam Fire Department, the Airport Fire Department as well as the Air Force and Navy Fire Department. Andersen Air Force Base Assistant Fire Chief Stanley Torres says the non-profit group is charged with forming ideas and event to help fire fighters in Guam and throughout Micronesia.

He says this will help to combine the efforts of fire personnel in the region, noting, "Anything that happens here on Guam is going to affect whether you are on-base or off-base and one of the thing the chiefs when we talk about training, we want to make sure our fire fighters and the other firefighters are well knowledgeable and skilled where we can help each other out without any hesitation."

He adds the group is looking for grant funding for training purposes. The group will also be tied in with the International Fire Chief Association in the U.S.
