Guam - The Guam Fire Department is working to have all of its firefighters professionally board certified. GFD Spokesperson Captain Andy Arceo says at least nine firefighters are taking the weeklong training this week, which is being administered by fire officials from Andersen Air Force Base.
Arceo says the training means that local firefighters will be held to a much higher standard that's consistent with nationwide standards. "That means there is certain criteria they have to meet and the good thing about it is the military already adopted it and the fire departments in the United States have adopted it also so we are basically making our standards the same to the fire fighters in the US," he said.
Arceo adds the goal is place all GFD personnel through the training. The course continues tomorrow at the GFD headquarters.
