Guam - The Guam Army National Guard's 1st battalion, 249th Infantry Regiment is taking on a 15-day annual training exercise. Today's training was held on Andersen Air Force Base where soldiers tested their physical fitness skills, as well as precision in shooting at the firing range.

The training also allowed for some friendly competition between each squad where they tested just how much stress the squad leaders would be able to handle especially during deployments. Major Romeo Delfin said, "The focus of this year's annual training is really at the squad level and the idea behind that is in the contemporary operations it's really the squad leader that does the fighting, that's out interacting with the local populous...being that there is also a deployment coming up it shows the strengths and weaknesses on what we can work on."

The Guam National Guard was given notice of a possible deployment sometime in 2013. The military is not releasing further details at this time.
