First Lady wants to increase foster families
"I cannot as a mother allow Guam's children to grow up without the love and support of parents and sibling," First Lady of Guam Christine Calvo.
Guam – "I cannot as a mother allow Guam's children to grow up without the love and support of parents and sibling," First Lady of Guam Christine Calvo. This morning at Government House in Agana Heights she announced her new initiative to help the island's children and strengthen families.
"Together we will increase the number of qualified foster families with a goal of doubling the amount and the support of our existing foster families. To help recruit new foster families, I will be partnering with the village mayors, the military, faith based organizations and churches to identify those who are interested and who are qualified families."
The Department of Public Health, the Governor's Office and the Foster Families Association of Guam are also taking part in the initiative. According to the First Lady, there are more than 200 children who need a caring home and there are only 27 foster families that exist locally.
