Guam - The Ayuda Foundation submitted an application for $644,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of health and human services to help expand services provided by Ayuda's Island Girl Power program. The program was developed nearly a decade ago to help address high rates of teen pregnancy, suicide, and use of illegal substances, by offering a safe outlet for girls between the ages of 7 and 14.

Program director Juanita Blaz states, "This is a positive step forward in helping our young women deal with very serious issues, which undoubtedly influence how they develop as individuals and as members of our community."
