Guam - The Department of Corrections is investigating the response of the officers who were injured last week after an inmate allegedly threw scalding water on them. The inmate was denied a phone call at the Post 6 Max Unit. DepCor officials say Ermino Jack heated up a cup of water in the unit's Day Room and threw it on the officers.
While the inmate was criminally charged with aggravated assault, DepCor spokesperson Lieutenant Antone Aguon says they may need to revisit their department policies when dealing with inmates to prevent this incident from happening in the future. "Our procedures are in place and depending on the investigation it may require one additional training and just for us to just tighten up our policies up and we'll take it from there depending on what the investigation shows," he explained.
In the meantime, the corrections officers are recovering from first and second degree burns.
