Guam - Two men are dead after an early morning car accident in Mangilao. Guam Police Department Spokesperson Officer A.J. Balajadia says police got the call around 1am that a 1998 Mercury Mystique ran off the roadway near Father Duenas Memorial School. Police say the vehicle was traveling south when the operator lost control and encroached into the oncoming lane before colliding with a guardrail.
The driver, described only as a 29-year-old man, was taken to Guam Memorial Hospital where he is awake and alert in the Regular Ward and in stable condition, according to nursing supervisor Cely Mangrobang.
. The rear passenger, 25, was taken to Naval Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:50am. Balajadia says rescue officials had to use the Jaws of Life to extract the front passenger from the vehicle. Police say a 19-year-old was then taken to GMH where he was pronounced dead at 2:45am.
Guam Highway Patrol officers were activated to the scene and continue to investigate whether speed and/or alcohol are contributing factors in the crash. Their deaths mark the seventh and eighth traffic related fatalities of the year.
